Nanna’s Beef Stew

A scrumptious winter warming meal and simple to prepare.

Ingredients

  • 1 kg gravy beef cubed
  • 1 cup plain flour to coat
  • 1 pinch pepper sliced
  • 2 onion sliced
  • 2 carrot large sliced
  • 4 potato large quartered
  • 4 cup water
  • 4 tsp beef stock (liquid)
  • 1/2 cup tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbs sugar
  • 4 bay leaf

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 160C.
  2. Toss meat in flour and season with cracked pepper.
  3. Place in casserole dish.
  4. Add onions, carrots and potatoes.
  5. Combine water, beef stock, sauces and sugar.
  6. Pour over meat and vegetables.
  7. Add bay leaves.
  8. Mix until combined.
  9. Bake for 2 hours, remove.
  10. Stir then bake a further 1 hour.

Notes

For a thicker stew coat meat with a generous amount of flour. I usually toss in half a cup of flour with the meat before adding the rest of the ingredients. You can also add any extra vegetables of your choice. Use steak of choice.
